Tulasi Sankeerthana (annual event )

Monday, November 19, 2018 5:30 – 6:30pm516 Wentworth Ln, Murphy, TX 75094, USA

Come join us in traditional attire for Tulasi Sankeerthana.

During the festive season of Deepavali, it was common in Parashurama Kshetra to perform Tulasi Sankeerthana for 12 days around sunset time. With urban lifestyles, we are seeing fewer people practice it and it is soon becoming a lost art with few people knowing the original songs in entirety.

Tulasi is the Indian Basil plant that is present in every house in Parashurama Kshetra. Tulasi is known for its many medicinal uses. Sankeerthana means music, dance and singing. Culturally Tulasi is grown in a nicely decorated pot(Tulasi katte), typically reddish orange clay pot color with plenty of decorations and artistic designs .

Our volunteers are working on building a Tulasi Katte with locally sourced materials. If we have enough volunteers, we will also build an oil lamp stand and light lamps as done back home.

If someone knows the songs and dance steps for Sankeerthana, then please help educate others. We have partial lyrics for "Neere Thorele" song, need help getting full lyrics.

Please check our calendar for event information.
